What to do if your mental health isn't in a good place

Sometimes your mental or emotional state might become ‘bad’ or ‘scary’ quite quickly, if this happens you should ring some for help. This might be:

  • suicidal behaviour or intention
  • panic attacks or extreme anxiety
  • psychotic episodes (loss of sense of reality, hallucinations or hearing voices)
  • other behaviour that seems out of control or irrational and that is likely to endanger yourself or others

If you're experiencing these things:

  • telephone: 999 if it's an emergency
  • telephone: 111 if you need medical advice

If it isn’t an emergency, if you need someone to talk to about how you’re feeling or you want to discuss how to deal with someone else’s behaviour visit NHS Vale of York Clinical Commissioning Group - Crisis support for more information.

What to do when you don't feel safe

If you need help for yourself or are worried about a friend or family member, you should speak to somebody you trust, an adult or someone that you feel comfortable with. Talking to somebody can make you feel better and improve the situation.

There are lots of people whose job is to make sure that children and young people in York are safe. We make sure that all these people work together to protect children and young people in York.

Find more information on the City of York Safeguarding Children Partnership website.

Remember telephone: 999 if it's an emergency.
