Things to consider for adulthood and Preparing for Adulthood (PfA) Guide
Things to consider for adulthood and Preparing for Adulthood (PfA) Guide
The things to consider for adulthood section brings together ideas and prompts to help families and professionals support young people aged 13 to 25 as they prepare for adult life.
It highlights important transition points and areas to think about, recognising that timing and support will vary for each individual. The aim is to encourage informed, person-centred planning that builds confidence and independence over time.
You can now access the City of York Preparing for Adulthood Guide for Parents and Carers, a local resource that replaces the previous Preparing for Adulthood Protocol.
It’s designed for parents and carers of children and young people aged 0 to 25 in York, including those with SEND, in care, or with additional needs. The guide offers practical advice to help families understand what support is available and how to plan for the future across education, independence, health, and community life.
It recognises that every journey is different and that families are key partners in helping young people prepare for adulthood with confidence.
