Autism Training Workshops for School Support Staff

We're running:

We're running a series of in-person, practical workshops where Teaching Assistants (TAs) and support staff working with pupils on the autistic spectrum can learn about resources and useful strategies to help them in their role.

These will take place at SEND Central, Clifton Green, York, YO30 6BF. This building is located in front of Clifton Green School. Tea and coffee will be available.

Dates and times:

  • Secondary TAs: Monday 2 February 2026, 1.30pm to 4.00pm
  • Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) support workers: Monday 8 June 2026, 1.30pm to 4.00pm

Topics and resources will include:

  • timetables and other visuals
  • structured teaching
  • sensory circuits
  • gathering pupil voice
  • how to create structured breaks
  • transition strategies

Thursday afternoon for pre-booked support calls from 2.00pm until 4.30pm with the Specialist Teacher on duty.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCos), Autism Champions and teachers or teaching assistants (liaising with their SENDCo) may book a 20 minute support call or Teams meeting.

To book a Thursday telephone or Microsoft Teams support call, email: [email protected] stating your name, telephone number and which date you would like to book your call.

You'll receive a reply allocating you the time at which a specialist teacher will call you.

State if you would prefer an online meeting on Microsoft Teams and the Specialist Teacher will send you a Teams invite. Bookings close on Tuesday prior to the Thursday session you’d like to book.
