There are currently 3 types of support available:


The Educational Psychology Service offers a monthly telephone supportline which operates on the third Wednesday during term time. Parents and carers (who have no current involvement with an Educational Psychologist), as well as local professionals, are offered a 30 minute consultation to share concerns and discuss potential strategies to support children and young people with their learning and wellbeing. In addition, there is Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) Training. The cost is £450 per participant for City of York Council maintained schools (£500 for non-City of York Council schools including Academies and Independent schools). This includes:

  • all 6 days of training
  • all accompanying materials
  • a year of supervision (6 sessions, 12 hours) from the Educational Psychology team

This course starts on Tuesday 19 January (9.00am to 3.15pm) and will run for 6 consecutive Tuesdays. It will take place at West Offices, Station Rise, York, YO1 6GA.

Following the delivery of centralised training, we are now offering a free reflective workshop to all staff who attended the initial training. It will take place on 29 September 2026, from 9.00am to 12.30pm. The workshop will provide a structured, collaborative space to help individuals pause, reflect on past and current experiences, explore and share practice with others, and jointly consider next steps.
